Who have you become over the years? |
Are you your biggest fear? The one that doesn't let you step out of the comfort of your duvet and wear your victimhood as a security blanket? |
Or are you your most difficult days? When nothing seems to be going your way and trying to control things is as scary as giving away all control to an unknown force?
Or are you your past mistakes? The regrets and the failures? The ones you made because you did not know any better, but the shame and the guilt is what pushes you to the bottle of gin every night?
Or are you your failed relationships? The ones that left you out in the cold? So cold that you now try to find warmth in the many casual flings which in a way leave you hating yourself more than loving yourself?
Or are you the opinion of others? What others think of you, what they expect you to be? What you end up becoming because you hold onto the false identity because that is all you have left?
Or are you the envy, the jealousy, the resentment? The need to not be compared? Firstly, by yourself? Have you become the need to prove a point to be one up, not realising that this entire game is pointless in every way. And it just ends in the world pointing fingers at each other.
Or are you your cars, your mansions, your foreign vacations, your awards, your followers, your bank balance? Everything that you know can buy you momentary pleasure but never endless joy.
What have you become?
You always have the choice to be you. The authentic you. Which is not your guilt, shame, anger, regrets, rejections, beliefs, relationships, jobs, responsibilities, fears or failures.
You have the choice to be fearless. To be stronger than your fears.
You have the choice of being free. Not being tied down to opinions, beliefs and expectations of others. Or the stories that you use to self-sabotage your life.
You have the choice to be love. Of not being the hatred, the envy or the resentment. Or showing up with compassion, empathy and kindness.
You have the choice of being your youness. Or bringing to life your unique talents, passions and purpose.
You are enough even if you don't feel like it without all that is going on in your life.

Showing up is the lullaby for fear. |
Fear is born from the experience of our experiences. Fear is when we are forced to let go of the surrender to love and are pushed to control everything for the want of being loved. Fear is when the only way out seems to be in manipulating our lives and of others and compromising on our authenticity to saunter through life. Fear is something that we gather over time or has been built into us. The fear reflex through evolution also keeps us in control in our familiar, safe zone, not wanting to risk our well-being to the unknown, untried, untested.
But here’s a thing or two about fear. You can't kill fear, but you can overcome it. You cannot shrug fear, but you can ignore it. You can't stop fear from sleeping in your bed every night, but the choice is yours to turn away from it or face it. Fear is like your shadow. You can never, never, never lose it, but you can make it lose its power over you.
Think of you and your big dream out for an evening of fun and frolic. Fear will forcefully come along too like an uninvited guest, and you will not be able to dissuade it or hide from it. Let it tag along but give no importance. Snub it, if you may. Don't give fear the right to order your cab or drive the car or choose the music or order the drinks. Fear will want to take charge of everything, that's what fear feeds on. Just give it no power to take any decision. None at all.
Fear. You can't shut it out, but you can make space for it. You can't stop it from playing with you, but you can stop it from playing you.
How? By showing up.
Showing up is a mantra, an incantation, a magic spell of charms. Showing up allows you to walk into fear's ferocious den, sit beside it, pat its head and walk on to the other side while it catches a nap.
Showing up is a form of affirmations - positive statements of positive belief that work like magic mantras. Showing up gives you a sense of security, and works like a lullaby for fear. And once the fear goes into a deep slumber, create your big life before it wakes up again and roars.
When it wakes up, charm it again with more show ups. Fear will be putty in your hands, and showing up will be the magic spell to keep it sedated.
