Healing is in failing. |
Your healing is not failing if you are. In fact, a huge part of the healing process lies in failing. In things falling apart, in beliefs shattering like bone china in butterfingers. And when things fall to the ground, you realise, the fall wasn't as bad as you expected. In fact, the fall shows you a perspective that things weren't broken like you always thought they were. You realise that you can survive this too. And that's a huge leap in the path of healing. |
Allow for the failures. Allow for all the coping mechanisms that you have created in your life to protect yourself to be tested by time, events and relationships. In this you will realise that what you thought was intolerable can be endured, what you thought was insufferable can be put up with, what you thought was unacceptable and overpowering is not that bad after all, what you thought you can't ever overcome is nothing more than a small hurdle.
The aunt your family despises is a good listener, a colleague of another faith is actually fun to hang out with, the friendship that went sour a few years ago because of the girl next door is in reality the sweetest memory that you have today and could open doors to lead you out of loneliness. The job that you so depended on and now is lost could be just the sign that you needed to follow your own dream. The relationship you wanted to heal was never meant to be. The illness was just the nudge you needed to slow down and peace out.
Healing is not linear. For when you think that things are not going your way may be the universe's way of clearing your path of toxic people, things, thoughts and fears. And what you feel is going two steps back, may in reality be, taking four steps forward.
Healing is not about saving yourself from failures. It is about building tenacity, perseverance and resilience to allow the ups and downs of life to not beat you to the ground but give you the impetus to question everything, everything that has defined your thoughts, beliefs, thinking, programming, conditioning and prejudices. It is about allowing joy through acceptance of everything.

When we expand our willingness to fail is when we expand our willingness for joy.

Being childish is a trauma reaction. Being childlike is a healing response. |
Pent-up trauma is a personality trait. Our childish response to life comes from our unresolved parts. Our childlike involvement, being an active participant in our own life comes when we really want to heal ourselves.
Embrace your childlike nature. Not as a cold, fleeting side hug with a colder pat on the back but a full-bodied embrace, with arms holding onto one another so tight that no wind of self-doubt can pass through.
Embrace curiosity and learning. Be curious about the recipe of the gajar ka halwa as you are about the carrot and stick story in real life. Foster a sense of wonder. Be awestruck by the beetle in the weeds as much as the beetle on the streets.
Embrace playfulness. Engage in play to explore the world around you. Go on a playdate with yourself, back to video games or a swing in the park. Slide down the tree or preserve the flowers in the page of your book. Be silly. Be foolish. Act like a dunce. Dance like no one is watching.
Embrace imagination: Create monsters from clouds, puppies from acorns. Put googly eyes on laptops and create your own Google doodles. Draw, paint, read books, watch movies. Dream. Daydream. Just be.
Embrace presence. Be childlike and not caring about the past or the future. Be in the present, in this moment where life is happening, not bothered about where the bread on the table will come from or where the accidentally swallowed marble in the stomach will go. Engage your senses, observe your surroundings, savour the little things and show gratitude for the simple joys.
Embrace wonder and awe: Spot joy in the chirping of the birds as much as your first cup of coffee. Get lost in the colours of the sunset and darkness of the night as you see the milky way. Notice the everyday miracles around you.
Embrace innocence. Look at the world from a sense of purity. Choose to see that if you remove the masks, everyone is inherently good. Bring kindness, empathy and compassion to your world as you let go of judgements and preconceived notions.
Embrace authenticity. Your quirks, your talents, your special gifts. Express yourself freely like a child does when they are served bitter gourd for dinner or pizza for breakfast.
