  Your anger is sacred.

  mark

Your anger, rage, fury and wrath are not an open burrito where all the ingredients are spread out for you to understand every aspect of your life. Anger is just one layer of a double-decker club sandwich, a cutlet of rage delicately sandwiched between other emotions.

The taste of anxiety, numbness, depression and irritability is what you feel on your tongue first. Then comes the raw meat of anger, beneath which lies the sauce of grief and love — two ends of the same scale — the cause of all anger.

The need for love creates desire. Desire leads to attachment. And then attachment leads to anger. Kama — raga — krodha. And then anger causes one to lose themselves in the world.

But not everyone knows that they are angry.

We live in a world where repressing our emotions and feelings is celebrated and rewarded.

  “Oh, you are so mature.”

“How wise of you, you played the bigger person.”

“You handled it like a pro without losing your cool.”

This certain praise becomes our love language. Holding back what we feel then becomes our strategy to be applauded and loved in the world.

Suppressing and repressing our anger and rage is just a natural response to all our conditioning. Thus, anger — a kind of unprocessed and unreleased energy — becomes stagnant energy, leading to disease.

We have been conditioned to believe that anger only destroys, but we have never been told that anger can also be a way to protect our grief. Anger has the ability to provide a sense of control, purpose or relief during intense emotional pain. It distracts from feelings of powerlessness and vulnerability, gives strength, motivates action and acts as a buffer against the full impact of grief as one moves from denial to acceptance.

We have lost the ability to get in touch with our anger. We have learned how to become anger, but not how to use it to heal ourselves and protect us from grief.

Anger is not the enemy. Your anger is sacred. It’s a beautiful friend that holds space for you, allowing you to lead yourself to your wounds. Anger demands just one thing from you: to acknowledge it, process it and listen to it. But we often end up wearing it in our actions and passing it off as a personality trait.

Anger needs you. It wants you to talk about it with a friend. It wants you to write about it, and not always be right about it. It wants you to yell into a pillow or release it with a 100 kg chest press. Anger does not want to be held. It wants to be freed — not onto someone, but screamed into the sky, stood in the ocean, hugged into a tree or just grounded into the earth.

  A conversation with the youniverse.
The six ways to finding peace.

  mark

  You: I want peace!

Youniverse: Oh, hello! You are here again! Always good to see you.

  You: You don't call me. So, I don't come. But today, I didn't care if you did or not;
I just came to talk to you.

Youniverse: Good decision! Now that you and I are talking, do you feel at peace?

  You: Yes!

Youniverse: So, that's the first of the six rules for finding peace. Slow down, meditate,
have a conversation with the divine within you. Like you are having right now.

You: Ok, good! What are the other five?

Youniverse: Oh, you eager beaver! Patience, my child, patience.

By the way, that's also the second rule. Sabr. Saburi. Patience of not the 'give it all up and wait for eternity' kind. It's the patience that asks you to keep showing up and responding to life, detached from the outcome but with strength. Strength of not the kind that allows your horses to run amok but lets you rein them in and guide them. It's the strength to hold back a reaction. To hold back a reaction of bravado and personality but allow for the response of reason and intuition. Sabr is also sehanshakti, the power of incomplainable forbearance -
to never admit defeat.

  You: The third?

Youniverse: Work hard to have less rather than more. The less you hoard, the less you accumulate, the fewer your attachments; more the peace. The less you have to control, the easier it is to let go; less of things, ideas, and people that control you. Have big aspirations. Play big. But play on my team, not yours.

  You: Fourth?

Youniverse: Don't aim to be the first in anything. Let go of this dire, desperate need to be first, best, perfect, most. You have no idea who will go to the grave first. So don't dig one for yourself by being caught up in the narrative of always having to be first. Get out of the rat race. You are a sentient being who came here to have a human experience, not a rodent experience.

  You: Fifth?

Youniverse: Let your will be done by others. Let others’ will be done by you. Devote your life to the service of others. Service is the antidote to suffering. And allow your will to be fulfilled by others. Be receptive to the help of others and my grace. Trust that I am making things work.

  You: And sixth?

Youniverse: Don't ask too many questions. Haha! Svikaar. Unquestionable acceptance that whatever is happening is happening by divine will and for you, not to you.
