  “Brain ko saboot chahiye, milord.”

The brain is a little child who will believe whatever you tell it. But that’s not the end of it.
In fact, that’s where the story starts.

The brain believes you and trusts what you just told it. But like a curious child, it starts looking for evidence to confirm what you told it and make the belief stronger. It searches for evidence that confirms existing beliefs. It does not, without your power, have the intelligence to disprove you. It just seeks proof to corroborate what you just told it. All’s good and innocent up till now.

But the ego starts its devious games, wanting to build and protect an image that you have put in its ‘mind’.

If the story you tell your brain is, “Nothing ever works out for me,” it will start searching for everything in your life that reinforces that thought. Now, from your past, the brain will dig out everything that never worked for you. For the present, it will only let you see all that is not working out, oblivious to everything else. For the future, it brings past trauma, experiences and repetitive patterns to convince you that things will not work out. And because you put so much thought into this, you end up manifesting things not working out for you. Remember, where energy goes, thought flows.

This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It’s also called confirmation bias. Our brains are built to be predictive and pattern-seeking.

You are driving down the road and you spot a yellow car when you are always thinking of a yellow car. You see a new word and the same word appears often over the next few days. You meet a new person and you end up meeting so many people
who know the same person.

You choose to see a problem in someone, then you only see problems in them. You choose to see them as vicious and vitriolic and the brain will keep looking for evidence to prove to you that they have anger issues and are filled with bitterness. Yes, we are wired for negative bias and we will only see the negative first.

But this wiring can be changed. By consciously telling your brain something else. Tell your brain that “everything works for me,” and the brain will dig out the evidence to prove it.
Tell the brain that you love someone and you will only see the evidence for the person being a loving and lovable person.

The same way that you did when you spotted yellow cars, start thinking of opportunities and you will only spot opportunities. Joy when you are only seeking joy. It's very easy to spot reasons to be mad when you are always thinking of being mad.

Your mind's job is to prove that you are right, even if you are wrong. The choice,
however, is always yours of what you want to be proven right.

You become what you constantly think about. Watch your mind. What negative or positive thoughts are taking up your mindspace nowadays?

Rare are those who do the work
for work's sake.

  You are a rare one.

The one who does the work for work’s sake. The one who cares not one bit for name, fame, fortune or nirvana. The one who wakes up every morning, prays and asks the universe to use you in its service. The one who wears their youness like a badge of honour, ties the shoelaces and hits the road in search of nothing, but just to give.

You are a rare one, the unselfish one who knows that unselfishness is the path to all the artha - resources and the kama - pleasure. And you the one who knows that when you show up for your karm, one day artha and kama wrap themselves around your feet and that is the day you realise you do not desire them at all. And that is also the day you find moksha - liberation from all karm.

You are the rare one who walks this selfless path not because anyone told you to. But one day, you heard, paid heed to and honoured that inner voice that showed you the path of abhyasa - the effort to become one with divinity and vairagya - a sense of non-attachment to life. Non-attachment to the results but full of love and childlike wonder. Not attached but not indifferent either - wanting to experience life as a direct experience fully and wholly through every emotion and still finding the sambhaav - the calm and the equanimity in all the pain, sorrow, joy, jealousy, envy and contentment.

You are the rare one who finds peace in restraint - in the being, not the doing. In doing the work while being in your beingness. Completely present and not allowing goals, desires, fears and selfish desires to sidetrack you. Self-restraint is the highest form of power. Awareness is a beautiful ally. Love, the only outcome.

You are the rare one who understands that the fruits of your labour are not yours to have a right over and you renounce them - karma phala tyaga. And that the only thing in your control is to show up for the work that is meant only for you, your purpose, even if you do not do it perfectly.

You are the rare one who knows that karma is not always the action - it's not the 24x7 army drill with no rest. It's the inaction in action - when the ego is inactive, when fear is inactive, when attachment is inactive and there comes a point when you are just showing up to be the vessel of the universe. The action then is not happening by you,
but through you.

You are rare. Your youness is your gift to the world. Thank you for showing up and doing the work for work’s sake.
