And you think you are not loved? |
You have left tiny, beautiful bits of yourself in the places you have been and the lives you have touched. You've planted seeds of joy in the hearts of those who've suffered. You've put hope in the ones who had nothing to live for. That's the magical impact you've created in the lives of people leaving their world a tad better than before.
Something that you said to someone casually has become their life mantra. Someone still finds comfort in the genre of movies that you introduced them to.
Someone still drapes the saree just like you taught them. Someone still makes the knot in the tie like you made it for them 30 years ago. Someone still ties their laces like you do.
Someone still remembers the Pythagoras Theorem like you taught them - Pandit Badri Prasad Har Har Bole.
Someone still makes Maggi on lonely monsoon afternoons like you did - soupy with a lot of ketchup.
| |
Someone still smiles when they think of your lame puns. Someone still thanks you for the break you gave them.
Your pet still prays for you every day and thanks you for bringing it home from the streets.
Someone still remembers your text to them after she lost her parents. She still believes in love because of that.
Someone still reads the morning paper like you used to - sports page first, then the supplement. Someone still keeps the sink clean just like you used to do at home.
Someone still thinks of you and laughs on how you sent them a gift hamper for winning your heart and love.
Someone still misses you for how their head fit just perfectly in the curve of your neck as you held them in your arms.
Someone still feels a tinge of regret when it's not their fingers intertwining with yours as they hold someone's hand. Someone still feels your hand on their shoulder when they have a bad day at work.
Your energy still lingers in rooms you walked into years ago. Your presence is still felt in the lives of those who had the privilege to experience your youness and authenticity. Your words and laughter still echo, and your magic still radiates in the conversations people have about you when you are not in the room.

You don't choose the lesson, but you choose the teacher. |

We all have a calling, a purpose, a personal myth, a why, an ikigai. We are all meant to play our roles, learn our lessons and be a part of the flowering of the universe’s garden. We've been created with and for a purpose. And sooner than later, even if we try to hide our light, the universe keeps nudging us towards it.
But we fail to see the signs and as we escape from life, playing truant every day, not even bothering to look at the syllabus that we have been given for this lifetime, the universe takes on the role of a ruthless, strict teacher. To teach us the lessons we came here for.
The more we get bowed down by the suffering, the more our light gets dimmed, the day when all we see is the dark. In the alleys of our subconscious mind lies the wisdom of the universe, which we shut out for reasons that even we don't know at times. And then an event happens in our lives that wakes us up to this wisdom and makes us recalibrate everything in our life that we have pushed out, ignored or not paid attention to. We realise that we have been buried deep inside the ground, cold, damp, eerie. But we don't realise that we may not have been buried but planted. To rise like a phoenix and find our path to the light through the dark night. We eventually learn the lesson through pain.
There's another teacher though - more kind, much more generous, loving, ebullient and spirited, and usually the more lenient form of the universe.
Joy.
Joy allows us to learn the lessons without going through the pain; by acknowledging and facing our fears; by sitting with our false, limiting beliefs and letting them go; by turning anger into love by forgiving; by serving and being generous; by creating from the being, not the ego; by loving ourselves hard enough to realise that we all are one and worthy of the same love; by showing up with compassion and empathy for our fellow beings and every creation of the universe; by letting kindness lead the path for us always; by pouring our love into every thought, every act, everything that we are called upon to do; by being a presence of love when we meet ourselves and others.
Pain or joy? You have a choice. Choose your teacher wisely.
