Twelve? 52? 365? One every day, because when you follow your joy and your purpose, it calls on you to do the inner work and fall totally, relentlessly and irrevocably in love with yourself. And as you heal, you realise, the person you are in the evening is so very different than the one that pushed aside her warm duvet in the morning, had a coffee and walked out of the front door to follow her joy. Every day is a rebirthday of sorts and every time you put yourself in the world, every time you live your passion, every time you honour your purpose, every time you show up with love, you bring back home not only a feather in your cap but a spring in your step, a dance in your soul, light in your being and another candle for your life’s cake of fulfilment.           You don’t grow old but a lot wiser. You don’t get a heart that has to work harder but one that gets tender and bigger. You don’t find it harder to see and hear, but you see and hear clearly the stories that you were living. Your hands don’t become shaky but have an urgency to rewrite those narratives. Your skin doesn’t get thinner but thicker so that the ups and downs and the trials and tribulations of life don’t wound you anymore. You don’t get wrinkles but you iron them out from your life. You don’t lose hair but you lose the urge to pull your hair when things don’t go your way. Your metabolism doesn’t slow down but your ability to digest the hardships of the past becomes a lot better. Your kidneys don’t start giving up but you get better at processing all the shit that comes your way. You don’t get sun spots on your skin but you do come across as someone who’s spotted the light and has swallowed the sun.           Not every birthday will be parties and songs. Chances are that on most of the birthdays on this journey, you’ll be alone, all by yourself with no one wishing for God to bless you.           There may not be buntings and balloons and no playing passing the parcel. There may be no musical chairs and Chinese whispers but there will always be love, there will always be your inner child, your angels, guides, gurus, ancestors and the universe in attendance, singing happy birthday to you. Every single day.           Time is not a healer. If at all it's an anesthetist.                     Time is not a healer. Time doesn’t heal the pain of childhood trauma, the guilt, the shame, the rejection or the regret. It just numbs the pain. It just softens the blow of the vitriolic remarks of parents. It takes the sharp stinging edge off the pain but the wounds stay forever and the scars show up every day in every action and decision of ours.           Time does not heal. It just shoves everything under the carpet to realise that one day you stumble on the bumps of the same carpet, fall face down and hurt yourself again.           Time does not heal. It just deep freezes an already spoilt and rotten relationship which is meant to show up again as the fire lights up under the pan sooner than later.           Time does not heal. If at all it does anything, it gives you a dose of anaesthesia that just puts balm on the wounds that time itself washes off over the years.           Time does not heal. It just throws the shame to the back of the cupboards, and one day when you spring clean your life, it comes out like critters in the woodwork.           Time does not heal. It just lets the guilt become a back-bencher till the time life gives you a surprise test and you fail miserably.           Time doesn’t heal. But healing takes time.           Starting with that very moment when you decide you want a better, bigger, bolder, fulfilling life for yourself, and goes on till the time you set yourself free of every story and experience that owns you.           Healing happens when a vitriolic remark is not forgotten but it stops having any control over you. When you let go of a belief that has defined your life for decades. When you choose to forgive someone not to let them off the hook, but to let yourself of the hook of hurting and moving on. Healing happens when you realise that the only prayer is when you don’t ask, but thank the universe for what you have.           Time gives you a loss of feeling or awareness.
