  At your lowest breakdown,
the highest breakthrough happens.

My whole body is trembling, my hair is standing on end, my bow Gandiva is slipping from my hand, and my skin is burning. I am unable to stand steady. My mind is reeling, and I see only signs of misfortune, O Keshava. ~ Bhagavad Gita 1.29–1.30

The biggest transformation doesn’t happen while wearing lycra, lying down on a yoga mat and eating satvik food for a week in the Himalayas. The biggest transformation doesn’t happen with a man seeking wisdom, sitting in stillness, working on detaching, sitting in a cave lit with incense and insight. The biggest shift happens when you are falling apart, when you hit rock bottom in life, when grief, anxiety and an overwhelming sense of doom and desolation debilitates you to the core.

The Gita does not begin when Arjuna is strong. It begins when he is shattered. It begins when his role, designation and identities can no longer hold him together.

So what does an immensely skilled warrior on the greatest battlefield of his life, his body trembling, his skin burning, his mind racing, his heart collapsing, unable to hold his own bow, do? Does he run away, lock himself in his bedroom waiting for the hard times to tide over, chain-smoke a pack of unfiltered cigarettes, drown himself in uncountable Patiala pegs, or does he fully surrender and go through a deep conversation with the divine, even if it takes 700 verses?

He chooses to walk through the doorway to God. And this door opens when you are unable to stand and your nervous system is in shambles and panic is your only response. This door opens when you have no philosophy left, no gyan left, no script left, no performance left, and all that remains is a shaking, overwhelmed human being saying, I cannot do this. Alone.

That is where the Gita begins. This is where God enters.

God doesn’t say, not now, my child, hold it together first, come back when you are calmer, wiser, more spiritual. God makes time to have a dialogue with you. Holding you, comforting you, guiding you, even being your charioteer.

So if your body is trembling, if your mind is reeling, if all you can see are signs of misfortune, you may just be in the opening verses of your own Gita, on the threshold of your own transformation.

The biggest panic attack in the battlefield of life is not where life ends. Sometimes it is where the conversation finally begins, where the heart eventually opens. Sometimes the moment you can no longer stand on your own is the moment you finally lean into something greater.

A life transformation program.

  You are the new ancestor.
Act accordingly.

Imagine this for a second and let this thought land subtly.

You are not just somebody’s child. You are somebody’s ancestor.

In about 50-100 years you will be forgotten. Your name will be used only in a random government record slowly eaten by termites. Your favourite chair would be sold at a thrift store in exchange for the cost of one side dish with a happy meal. Your bank balance, your job title, your jewellery, your walking stick will all be forgotten. The only thing that will stay is what travelled through your nervous system into the next one. What will stay is how you made people feel. And that would be the residue of how you were made to feel. What will stay are your fears, your silence, your shame, your way of living and loving, your way of apologising or not apologising, your unhealed wounds and yes, your healed ones too.

This is where generational trauma enters quietly like an old family recipe that no one knows where it came from. The anger that was normalised, the emotional suppression, the fear of intimacy, the scarcity mindset, the silence around pain, the shame around desire, the harshness disguised as discipline, the people-pleasing mistaken for goodness, the inherited belief that love must be earned - all of that may have come to you, but none of it is obliged to continue through you.

Here’s the thing - what came to you from your ancestors does not have to pass through you unchanged. The wound may not have started with you but the stopping inflicting it upon your coming generations can be your choice. The pattern you may have been old but the responses can be new. You may have inherited survival but you have a choice to leave behind fear as legacy.

A beautiful way of looking at this is to think of yourself not as a descendant but the origin point from where life took a new, kindred turn. Someone in the future will one day breathe easier because you did the inner work. Someone will know how to apologise because you learnt how. Someone will feel safe in love because you stopped confusing control with care. Someone will rest because you ended the religion of proving. Someone will create freely because you made authenticity safer than performing for accolades.

Be the ancestor you wish you had. Most of us think only backwards of what was done to us. From today, think forward as to what you can do for others.

If you have to leave a legacy, leave a legacy of love, not fear.
